We use Staedtler's sketch Mars Lumograph pencils most often in the studio. Also, there are plenty of brands that you can choose in the market.
There are different marks on the sketch pencils. The pencils are available in 16 degrees, ranging from particularly soft (8B) to very hard (6H). The harder the pencil is, the grading is lighter. The softer the pencil is, the grading is deeper. However, different brands has their own definition of the pencils. Make sure you get the right brand before you buy it!
There are different meanings between the alphabets on the pencils. H means "Hard." B means "Black."
The grading is lighter if there are more H, and it is better for brighter places' light grey and details. The grading is deeper if there are more B, and it is darker and easier to draw.
